The 1^st ERA ARD Call on “Bioenergy”

This call is the 1st Coordinated Call under the ERA ARD Net.
 

The major objective of the call is to contribute to exploring the opportunities and threats that bioenergy production poses for the rural poor in terms of food security, poverty alleviation and rural development and to investigate how bioenergy production influences land use and affects natural resources.
 

NEWS! Bioenergy Event

On Wednesday 16^th December 2009 a Bioenergy Event was held in Brussels.

Presentations were made by the regional studies implemented through the ERA ARD’s Southern Advisory Group (SAG) - Regional Evidence Generation and Policy and Institutional Mapping on Food and Biofuel for the Africa, Asia and Latin American regions which aims to better understand the current initiatives on food and bioenergy and their consequent effects on food availability and livelihood opportunities to smallholder farmers in developing regions. Generating evidences on the impact of converting food crop areas into bioenergy (if any) and mapping policies and institutional initiative in support of pro-poor bioenergy programs of developing economies are the two major components of the study. Study results shall be used as policy inputs to regional planning and shall be translated into popular documents for enhanced knowledge sharing. The study is funded out of the United Kingdom’s contribution to ERA ARD, through its Department For International Development (DFID) and is being conducted by the regional for a: AARINENA, APAARI, FARA & FORAGRO.

Presentations were made of the 5 Bioenergy projects funded under the 1st Coordinated Call for a Transnational Research Activity.

In addition there was a presentation of the INCO project COMPETE aiming to link up with the ERA ARD activities.

Finally, there was a presentation by the ERA ARD Monitoring & Evaluation Team that has supported the Bioenergy projects.
